All 7th graders at OMS will be enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences. Foods and nutrition, interior design and sewing skills will be part of the class. Each student will complete and meet standards for 7th graders in FCS.
FCS design
The interior design unit is the first of 3 units for FCS 7.
Standard: Develop skills in interior design.
1: Understanding of FCS 7. t 3 topics that FCS will cover in the next 12 weeks. Write what you would like to learn from the topics, plus 4 core area connections. “ Tomorrow changes everything.” Discuss. Home: WEB board.
2: Discuss and finish day 1. Why we live where we live DVD “Locations” activity Power Point Unique homes Use blank paper for drawing dream home. Include surroundings.
3: Finish day 2 Write real estate ad for home on back.
4: Elements of design What are the elements and how they used in houses.
5/6: Computer assignment. 5 elements 2 examples each of housing pictures.
7/8: Color wheel and how texture affect color. Color quilt strip, 3 blocks, 3 different color scheme.
9: Furniture arrangement in a room. Wall arrangement assignment.
10. Wall arrangement assignment.
11-12: 11 picture assessment.
13-20: Homestyler.com project

FCS Clothing
Standard: Produce and analyze clothing, textile products and care.
The sewing unit is the 2nd of 3 units in FCS 7. The sewing project may be a pillow that the school provides free of charge or a simple purchased stuffed project. Students will choose what they wish to do.
1: Why We wear what we wear DVD. Selecting clothing . Peer pressure and school uniforms
2. First impressions power point Computer assignment: Words from first impression; 5 words 2 pictures each = 10 pictures. Must be clothes, also 1 for each color scheme= 4-5
